Studenckie Koło Naukowe „STRATI” AGH

The Students’ Scientific Association "STRATI" AGH, founded in the 1990s, focuses on developing students' passion in the fields of stratigraphy and paleontology. Association members can pursue their own research under the watchful eye of the Circle Supervisor on a daily basis. However, every few years, the Circle prepares grant projects for research on the geology of the Alpids and the evolution of the Tethys Ocean during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. In the past, the Association conducted its work in Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania, Albania, and more exotic locations such as Morocco and Nepal. The current target of the Association is the Ladakh region in northwestern India. The main goal of the Association's expeditions is to search for bivalves from the so-called Lithiotis facies, the discovery of which provides opportunities for reconstructing the paleogeography and paleoecology of mainly the southern shore of the Tethys Ocean during the early Jurassic Pliensbachian-Toarcian stages, a period ranging from 193 million to 174 million years ago. Research on Lithiotis bivalves in Ladakh is planned for the summer of 2024 and will be financed by the IDUB grant.
